Spaetzle

Absolute favourite!

This is ok for 3 people; multiply as needed;

Dough:

  • 1 ½ cups flour (375 ml)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • dash nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • ½-3/4 cup milk (125-175 ml)
  • salt

Dressing:

  • ¼ cup (60 ml) of butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • salt and freshly ground pepper
  1. mix together flour, salt, nutmeg
  2. add eggs and milk to flour mixture and stir to make a medium-thick batter
  3. in a large pot add salt to water and bring to boil
  4. push batter through a spaetzle maker and drop into boiling water
  5. simmer until tender, about 4-5 minutes and drain
  6. melt butter in frying pan
  7. lightly sauté cooked spaetzle with onion and seasonings until golden
